Can Obama Bring the Change that he Talked about?

62

By Citizen of Earth

That's a good question, and one worth talking about. Let's consider...

President Elect Barack Obama made a humble, gracious and eloquent acceptance speech in Chicago on November 4th, 2008. This victory belongs to all American people and all citizens of this planet we call Earth. We all won last Tuesday, and can now hope for some solid long-term planning in the U.S. of A. Bush's legacy is two ongoing wars, a planet in peril, and terrible economic crisis, but as Obama says, "This victory alone is not the change we seek; it is only the chance for us to make that change..." Obama understands that the role of US President is not one to be taken lightly. He also knows the difference between leading and ruling. Remember, folks, that the U.S. president is a democratically elected leader, not a king in a suit and tie.

So rather than making snap judgements about what the next four years have in store, read the information, watch some of the videos below, and make an informed decision.

President Obama's First Day on the Job: Actions Speak Louder Than Words

President Obama fulfilled his promise to "hit the ground running" on his first full day on the job as president of the United States. Here is what he accomplished within 12 hours of taking office:

Met with top military officials and asked them to draw up plans needed for a "responsible" withdrawal of US troops from Iraq and deployment of needed forces in Afghanistan.

Signed a string of political orders requiring ethical politics and open government from this and future administrations so that we don't see a repeat of Bush/Cheney.

Froze the salaries of White House staffers earning in excess of $100,000 per year.

Made diplomatic phone calls to world leaders. Asked former Northern Ireland peacemaker and senator George Mitchell to serve as Middle East envoy.

Ordered all so-called "trials" at Guantanamo to stop for a period of time. The closing of the Guantanamo Bay "war on terror" prison camp is expected soon, followed by a return to procedures in keeping with the U.S. Constitution and Geneva Convention.

Met with his top economic advisers for an update on the 800 billion dollar plus stimulus bill he is trying to push through the US Congress.

Obama's Acceptance Speech

Obama's Speech on Race in the United States

The speech was written by Barack Obama and delivered back in March of 2008 in Philadelphia, PA at Constitution Center , but it is so meaningful that it bears repeating. So if you missed it the first time around, have a listen. And if you've heard it before, listen again. The United States of America has managed to judge Obama "not by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character." He speaks about matters not just of race, but of the fundamental and honorable path by which America can work together to pursue a better future. He is a Citizen of Earth who posses both wisdom and education. He knows the constitution, and will not violate it. He knows history, and may thereby help us all to avoid repeating it.

President Elect Barack Obama's First Press Conference

The new President Elect, Barack Obama, gave a press conference in which he spoke for about six minutes, and then answered questions. More that 10 million Americans are now unemployed, and Obama's proposed tax reform with lower taxes for about 95% of Americans. What a prospect. People around the world are joyful that this man, with his dignity and wisdom, and ability to speak without script-writers or cue cards, will lead the United States. The USA is a global superpower, and it's high time it moved in a smarter direction. There are many specifics in this speech and subsequent Q&A, not just lip service, so yes, he will deliver.

since Barack Obama's advisor is Zbginew Breshinski, I wonder how he will stay out of any wars? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MouUJNG8f2k

As far as Bush is concerned, isn't it a fact that colin Powell who endorsed Obama, was the one who made the speech inthe UN convincing the UN that Iraq had WMD? http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2003/feb/05/iraq.u
